Undrained cyclic plane strain tests were performed to investigate the deformation and strength characteristics of the Ko-consolidated clay. As the result, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) The undrained cyclic strength was larger by about 10% under plane strain condition than under triaxial condition. 2) The cyclic deformation characteristics were clarified due to the confining frame, such as a) the increase of pore pressure in early stage of loading, and b) the sudden increase of axial strain immediately before failure. 3) The undrained cyclic failure for clays occurred in the yielding failure in loading cycles and in the failure due to the stress reversal in unloading cycles. 4) The cyclic behaviour might be predicted from the results of static shear tests except for the large cyclic loading such as the stress reversal. 5) The coefficient of intermediate principal stress, b-value, reached to about 0.30 at failure, which was the same with the one for undrained static shear tests.
