摘要

An environmentally responsive design for a new residence in San Pedro Creek, New Mexico, was created using a unique integrated systems approach. Located at an altitude of 6700 feet with dramatic panoramic views of surrounding mountains, the sunny, cool climate is ideal for constructing a solar-driven home. The initial design concept was based on the owner's program, the site, and passive solar heating and cooling principles. Additionally, a 5 kilowatt photovoltaic system is interrelated with a solar thermal system to provide electrical power, auxiliary space heating, and domestic hot water to produce a positive net energy cost home - without the use of any fossil fuels on site. The site and building design were also influenced by the incorporation of a water harvesting system that supplies a 10,000 gallon underground cistern.
