In recentyears, much research work has been carried out on the durability and long-term performance of concrete structures in marine environments. In particular, much work has been carried out in orderto obtain bettercontrol of chloride penetration and corrosion of embedded steel, which represent the greatest threat to the safety and economy of concrete marine structures. Corrosion of reinforcement is the major cause of the deterioration of concrete structures exposed to chloride in the Persian Gulf region and is affected by many factors. Silica fume and waterto binder ratio would be considered as the most significant factors that influence the chloride diffusion into concrete. In this paper, values of diffusion coefficient, which were determined for several mixture proportions of concrete exposed to seawaterin the Persian Gulf forthree months, have been investigated. Finally, the effect of these silica fume contents and water-binder ratios were investigated and the optim um silica fume percentage for concrete structures in Persian Gulf region was proposed.
