摘要

About a decade ago archaeologists first became aware of the existence of Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) Great Trails within the canyons of Southeast Utah. By walking many kilometers of canyon landscape, they have tentatively identified an extensive network of "road" segments—well-defined pathways up to 10 meters wide—connecting major ancient settlements of Southeast Utah. The discovery of a Great Trail network, which now totals over 100 kilometers in length, led to the identification of other archaeological sites associated with it, typical of the late 11th and early 12th century AD Pueblo culture. This paper reports on the first phase of a study aimed at using remotely sensed satellite digital imagery to delineate and map the prehistoric Great Trails of Southeast Utah.
