The Changbei tight gas reservoir has presented a numberrnof challenges in successful application of fracture stimulationrntechniques. In an appraisal program, 4 wells have beenrnfracture stimulated. Issues related to fracture containment andrnhigh fluid leak-off in coal layers above and below the sandrnreservoir have led to a number of design and operationrnchallenges. The fractures placed have led to significantrnproduction improvements, up to a factor of 10 over pre-fracrnproduction. This paper gives an overview of the treatmentrnoperations, and without going into details of fracture designrnand execution, key aspects are outlined and their implicationsrndiscussed.
