Hydraulic Fracturing program has been initiated to enhancerngas production in the Jauf sandstone reservoir in the Ghawarrnfield, Saudi Arabia. At the initial stage of the program,rnnumerous diagnostic tests are being conducted on every wellrnbefore, during, and after fracture treatment. These testsrninclude pre- and post fracture pressure transient analysis,rnradioactive tracer log runs during mini and main fracturerntreatments, production tests, temperature and productionrnlogging, complete reservoir characterization, productionrnforecast, and history matching actual fracture treatment data.rnThe objective of the tests and detailed evaluation is tornaccurately predict fracture dimension and incrementalrnproduction and to calibrate stress and fracture models tornoptimize future fracture designs. This paper presents in detailrnthe process of data handling, tests, and analyses, and lessonsrnthat are learned through the process of conducting the programrnand evaluating the results.rnThe paper discusses several field cases where the wellsrnhave been fractured using intermediate strength proppant. Forrneach of the wells, careful design of the fracture treatment andrndetailed assessment of fracturing benefit in terms ofrnproduction were performed. Design of the tests includedrnnumerous sensitivity studies on reservoir and fracturernparameters to optimize treatment. Tests conducted arerngenerally analyzed to characterize the fracture geometry, fluidrninvasion, and proppant transport. Consistent results werernsought from the tests and using the analysis results, postrnfracture short-term production test data are matched.rnThe paper also focuses on the benefit of orientedrnperforation technique and how this methodology improvesrnfracturing efficiency. A brief comparative study derived fromrnactual cases where wells have been perforated using differentrnmethods is provided in the paper. At the end, the paperrndiscusses the need and importance of some of the tests and thernquality of the results that may be obtained from them. A tablernpresenting results from post-fracture production tests arernprovided to illustrate the fracturing benefit from the Jaufrnsandstone reservoir wells.
