Mexico City's Metropolitan Zone (ZMCM) presents diverse area sources and emits pollutants due to the materials used and the conditions of operation in these sources. In Mexico City's Metropolitan Zone (ZMCM) it is estimated that area sources emit about 10% of the total pollutant emissions (inventory of emissions of 1994)' The principal component of this percentage is hydrocarbons which result from the diverse activities that are carried out in the ZMCM. In order to carry out the calculations and estimate the pollutant emissions for the emission inventory of 1994, emission factors were initially obtained from the U. S. EPA. These were applied to 13 categories along with information from Mexico City to adapt and modify the emission factors to represent the conditions of emission to the equipment and characteristics of the materials used in the ZMCM. One of the modified factors developed was that for dry cleaning (dry cleaners). In order to modify this factor it was necessary to consider the characteristics of the solvents and the equipment used locally.
