The asymptotic structure of weakly strained moderately rich premixed methane-airrnrames stabilised in stagnation-point rows between two streams is analysed. In the asymp-rntotic analysis the inruence of strain on the mass rux, on the temperature and on thernconcentration of chemical species in the rame is treated as a perturbation from their val-rnues in the corresponding unstrained rame. Perturbation analysis is carried out to thernfrst order. The deviation of the mass burning rate in the strained rame from the massrnburning rate in the corresponding unstrained rame is obtained in terms of the Marksteinrnnumber. The rame is presumed to comprise the preheat zone, the reaction zone, and thernpost-rame zone. The preheat zone is presumed to be inert. Chemical reactions takingrnplace in the rame are described by a reduced chemical-kinetic mechanism made up of fourrnglobal steps. The reaction zone is presumed to be made up of the inner layer and thernoxidation layer. Analysis of the preheat zone and the reaction zone gives su?cient numberrnof equations from which the Markstein numbers can be calculated. Numerical calcula-rntions are performed using a chemical-kinetic mechanism made up of elementary reactions.rnMarkstein numbers are obtained and they are found to agree reasonably well with thoserncalculated using the results of asymptotic analysis. At fxed values of pressure and initialrntemperature of the reactants, the Markstein numbers obtained from asymptotic analysisrnand numerical calculations are found to increase with the equivalence ratio,()u001e. Marksteinrnnumbers are also found to agree reasonably well with those deduced from experiments.rnAn interesting fnding of the present study is that the Markstein number for moderatelyrnrich rames depends on the Lewis number of both fuel and oxygen.
