Nowadays, the damage-oriented structural assessment gains an increasing role in therneveryday engineering activity. This makes quite new demands both of the theoretical developmentsrnand practical availability of the analysis tools. The present contribution proposes a rational combinationrnof the full-scale nonlinear structural analysis including damage effects with efficient probabilisticrnreliability calculations in the framework of the Response Surface Method. A time-variantrnreliability of a RC bridge column with respect to stability failure is studied numerically under fatiguernconditions. Details of the applied fatigue damage model are discussed in the companion contributionrnby Pfanner et al. (2000).
