The U.S. Coast Guard operates approximately 1,600 boats that are used for a wide range of missions including Searchrnand Rescue (SAR), Ports, Waterways and Coastal Security (PWCS), Law Enforcement and Aids to Navigation (ATON)rnsupport. This paper addresses some of the challenges in obtaining boats to meet these diverse mission needs and thenrndescribe in more detail some of the recent acquisitions. Included are: an update on the 13.6m Response Boat – Mediumrn(RB-M); the 8.7m Response Boat – Small (RB-S), a multi-mission asset operating from coastal stations; the 10mrnTransportable Port Security Boat (TPSB) that is deployed for port security operations; and the 19.8m Special PurposernCraft – Screening Vessel (SPC-SV) that is used to escort high value ships.
