摘要

The purpose of this evaluation is to "self-appraise" the Department of Solid Waste Management's efforts in Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection since the Environmental Service Center (ESC) was established in October, 1999 up to June 2002 in order to better understand the variables required to move our HHW program a step forward in the right direction. Data used in this presentation came from records generated at ESC and Westpark facilities and turned in to the Recycling Division head office as weekly, monthly, and annual reports. The paper describes the major events in the program and offers suggestions on which forward. The result revealed that 1,229,019 pounds or 615 tons of HHW and 80,038 pounds or 40 tons of electronics scrap were delivered at both facilities with a total disposal cost of $549,434 and $7913.40 respectively, during the period under review. An estimate of drop-off rates for the two complete calendar years of operation (2000 and 2001) also revealed that latex paint only yielded 449 pounds of HHW per 1000 households and was the single largest category (58.4 %) of HHW collected from City of Houston (COH) facilities during the period under review.
