Montenay Power Corporation, a subsidiary of Onyx North America, has built its reputation on "SAFETY FROM THE TOP DOWN" and in so doing, has become an industry leader in safe, effective and economical operations of waste-to-energy systems in both the United States and Canada. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) created the Voluntary Protection Program (hereafter referred to as VPP) to recognize industrial institutions that demonstrate exemplary safety and health programs, which surpass the minimum requirements, set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations. Montenay's corporate staff is committed to the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and supports the efforts of all nine facilities in achieving "Star" status, within the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program. A structured and team oriented approach to empowering facility employees to take charge of their respective safety and health programs is what imparts Company success in below industry average injury and illness rates, lower attrition rates, increased productivity and lower insurance related expense. Presently, within the nine operating facilities, three facilities (Montenay Energy Resources of Montgomery County, Inc. (MERMCI) in Conshohocken, Pa., Montenay York County, Pa. and Montenay Islip, New York) are OSHA VPP "Star" worksites and four facilities (Montenay Montgomery County, Pa., Montenay Vancouver, B.C., Montenay Dade County, Florida and Montenay Islip, New York) are ISO 14001 registered. The remaining facilities are currently pursuing OSHA "Star" and ISO 14001 registration. Corporate leadership is committed to providing resources necessary to inculcate methods needed to enjoin all facilities at the same safety and environmental plateau. Montenay facilities have been active in OSHA VPP since 1996 and ISO 14001 since 1997. Inter-facility incentive programs (such as the "Safety Passport") serve to recognize and reward employees for individual accomplishments completed in safety and health related responsibilities. Corporate and facility management have undertaken and gained a full understanding of what is required to realize a successful environmental, safety and health value that is instilled in all Montenay employees.
