While the waste incineration with energy recovery technology has been matured and fairlyrnstable in the western world, the waste-to-energy (WTE) industry is considered at itsrndeveloping stage now in Asia. It is becoming a trend for proper treatment of solid wastes inrnAsia, for both continuous increases in population density and rapid economic developmentrnare facilitating significant growth of waste and hence the demand for proper treatmentrntechnology using minimal land space. China is foreseen as the major market for the WTErnindustry in Asia and Taiwan experience serves as a key reference for developing projects inrnAsian countries for its similarity in culture and living habits with others. Although much ofrnthe technology is learned from the western world, WTE projects in Asia can be veryrndifferent in project approaches, costs, financing, project development and operation. Wasternsupplies and technical attributions unique to typical Asian plants also bring significantrnchallenges in managing the plants technically and financially.
