A detailed study of the effect of alloy type and size on the press and sintered mechanical properties of blended elemental (BE) Ti-6Al-4Vpowder metallurgy (P/M) alloy was conducted. It was concluded that use of hydrogenated titanium combined with a master alloy addition gave the most uniform sintered microstructure, particularly low porosity, the best mechanical properties of any BE titanium P/M approach and the lowest cost. Thus this approach is particularly amenable to the production of components in the cost-sensitive auto industry such as valves, connecting rods, etc.
