Thick titania films can be produced on titanium substrates by an electrochemical method, through anodic oxidation of the substrate in a methanolic solution. This film can increase the stability of the substrate and may also make it bioactive, depending on the structural characteristics and surface chemistry of the oxide formed. In this work titania films were produced under a fixed current density and processing time, in methanolic solutions with different water content. The bioactivity of the films was evaluated upon immersion in simulated body fluid. The structural characteristics of the films and its bioactivity was evalauted by X-Ray Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy and Nitrogen Adsorption. The surface reactions in simulated body fluid was discussed in the light of the structure of the films and their surface chemistry.
