In stock preparation, the refining process has a significant influence both on product quality and on overall energy consumption figures. Therefore, it has always been wished to describe the refining process as precisely as possible with key figures. The complexity of the interrelations leads to a multitude of approaches. However, they all only included partial aspects. Based on Specific Edge Load SEL, a new ntensity figure, called Modified Edge Load MEL is defined. Besides the parameters already reflected in specific edge load, it also takes the influence of bar angle, bar width and groove width into account.
