Atmospherically pulped wheat straw has been demonstrated to successfully run in commercial unbleached operations with increases in strength properties and in drainage. Unscreened pulp can be used to bulk paperboard and molded pulp properties. Drainage can be improved in some pulp furnishes, but drying rate of wheat straw is higher that wood pulp or secondary fiber, due to a higher water retention value. This same pulp can be bleached to greater than 90 brightness.
