For modeling naturally fractured reservoirs, the dual-porosityrnporoelastic model is effective and accurate to characterizernstresses as well as flow fields. A generalized plane strain andrndual-porosity finite element solution has been developed forrnanalyzing horizontal borehole stability. Two kinds of failurerncriteria (spalling and collapse) were included. Results showrnthat horizontal borehole stability depends strongly on the inrnsitu stress state, the borehole orientation, time, mud pressurernand fracture characteristics.
