The objective of this study is to analyze the performance ofrnnon-conventional wells drilled in Hassi-Messaoud field,rnAlgeria. A new technique “Direct Synthesis” developed by Dr.rnD. Tiab1, 2 is used for the pressure transient analysis. It permitsrnthe determination of permeability tensor as well as therneffective length of the horizontal well. Hence, and for the firstrntime, the permeability tensor (Kx, Ky, Kz), and the verticalrnpermeability anisotropy (Kv/Kh) were obtained. The results ofrnthe interpretations lead to a verity of information andrncorrelations. Sensitivity studies allow the optimization ofrnfuture horizontal drilling plannings.rnThe comparison between the performances of slanted,rnhorizontal, and multilateral wells shows that slanted wells,rnregarding the low risk, are the most appropriate for Hassi-rnMessaoud field. From the spatial distribution ofrnpermeabilities, Kx, Ky, Kz, important conclusions arernillustrated regarding the geological model of the field.rnHorizontal wells are not only beneficial for improvingrnproductivity but also for the tremendous amount ofrninformation they provide. Form this study severalrnrecommendations are issued regarding the well spacing takingrninto account different geological models.
