In order to obtain desired physical properties (e.g. wrinkle resist, wash fastness, good stiffness, soft handle, etc) on cotton fabrics, various kinds of finishing resins such as cross-linking, softening, stiffening and water repellent agents have been used. The special finishing has been applied to produce interlining fabrics. In this work DMDHEU (dimethyolol dihydroxy ethylene urea) was used as low-formaldehyde cross-linking agent along with polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), amino silicone, polysaccharide gum and acrylate binder. The curing process is necessary for fabric finishing and plays an important role on the final properties of finished fabrics. In this study, the conventional curing process at high temperature (140 ~ 160℃), and also the electro magnetic waves were used for curing the finished fabrics. Literature search did not reveal papers dealing with the using of microwaves in the special finishing with DMDHEU in the composition of other resins. In order to elucidate the influence of curing methods, results obtained after curing in a microwave were compared with those obtained after conventional curing by a stenter. The results indicated that microwave could be used as curing method for cotton fabrics in the special finishing. It should be noted that microwave curing could improve the whiteness of interlining fabrics with comparing conventional method.
