For the drying and curing treatments of textile materials a microwave device has been designed at the Department of Textile Finishing and Material Testing at the Faculty of Textile Technology. This newly developed model consists of two magnetrons of 500 W each, positioned at two opposite sides of the treated material. Applied rectangular waveguides have line slots for the planar passage of textile materials. Waveguides are mutually connected with a 180° waveguide bend. Such meander applicator system improves energy distribution obtaining better uniformity across the whole width of the material. The major advantage of microwave implementation, from economical point of view, is a lower production cost. Furthermore, elimination of preliminary drying procedure is possible especially for the treatment of thick materials, which usually require two - step thermal treatments in conventional production units. Results obtained by these experiments are very promising, which indicates possible industrial usage.
