Thermal fluctuations leading to step and interface roughening are described making use of a concept of continuous interface pinned by a lattice potential. Systematic detailed outline of basic relations is given for those who are willing to deeper understand the roughening concept but is not professionally involved in the phase transition and renormalizations group theory. Some experimental examples are presented.
