A large part of the value brought by thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) lies in their ability to be processed as a thermoplastic material. While very successful in injection, co-injection and extrusion, soft TPE (TPE-S, TPV...) systems experience some difficulties when used in processes involving a melt elongation step. In those cases, like for instance in foaming, the TPE melt strength becomes a critical parameter. A new additive developed by Kraton Polymers results in the significant improvement of both the melt strength and flow of most TPEs without modifying significantly their end-use performances. Better flow combined with improved melt strength will boost the use of TPEs in added value processes like film blowing, foaming, fibers, thermoforming and blow molding.
