The deregulation of the electrical distribution market is forcing the distributors to concentrate more and more on the methods of distribution, leaving the tasks of design and installation of secondary substations to their manufacturers. Apart from the technical advantages of prefabricated distribution substations, the fact that there is one single representative for all: Equipment (cubicles, LV switchboard, Remote Control Cabinet etc.), Assembly, Testing, Transport, Delivery and the Installation, etc. relieves the distributor of lots of potential worries. The reliability of these prefabricated substations will not, of course, avoid problems occurring in the network due to other causes. To improve the operation of the network in normal conditions, and detect and isolate faults, and to restore the supply to the largest number of clients in the shortest possible time, it is necessary to create a distribution dispatching system, and introduce remotely controlled substations. These remotely controlled prefabricated substations, without a doubt, greatly improve the quality of the electrical supply service. In the future, an order from a distributor could well be: "I've 500kVA to deliver to such and such a place, do what's necessary!" ALSTOM T&D is ready to meet the challenge!
