During the cleaning process of parts cleaning in the metal and electronic industries, a large amount of wastewater solutions are generated. The contamination level control of aqueous cleaning solution is very important because it is closely related to cleaning efficiency and running cost. In this work, rinse water containing cleaning agents and contaminants was prepared and efficiency of oil/water separation by gravity settling method was evaluated for its recycling. The COD removal efficiency from the rinse water increased with temperature regardless of contaminants' type. It also increased in accordance with the decrease of HLB (hydrophilic lipophilic balance) value of the nonionic surfactant in the cleaning agents. These experimental results indicated that it was possible to recycle water through oil removal by gravity settling method from rinse water containing various contaminants.
