摘要

An overview of civil infrastructures and their problems in Japan, and some discussions on the characteristic features of structural health monitoring for civil infrastructures are presented. The focus of the discussion is placed on bridges in the transportation system. In the second place, research and development of health monitoring systems at the Bridge and Structure Laboratory of the University of Tokyo is described. Ambient vibration based approaches for Laser Doppler Vibrometer(LDV) and long-span suspension bridges show that densely distributed and accurate measurement provide valuable information on the status of structures although the excitation force is unknown.
