Liquid biocides continue to be a popular choice for control of microorganisms in industrial water systems. Several years ago. we introduced a liquid biocide termed stabilized bromine chloride (SBC) at this conference. The convenience and consistent activity of SBC has led to its widespread use in the C&I and middle market segments. In response to demands for more economical biocide choices for larger volume applications, we have recently engineered two additional liquid biocides with increased levels of bromine chloride active ingredient. These new biocides were developed with the requirements of specific industrial water treatment segments in mind and will continue to provide the convenience and consistent activity expected from this class of products. One product, for example, is expected to be most useful for the commercial and middle-market segments with some extension into selected heavy industrial applications. Another is most suitable for large-volume, heavy-industrial applications. It features activity approaching that of fresh, "off-the-line" bleach while delivering the benefits of a stabilized bromine system. This paper will point out the similarities and differences within this family of products engineered for microbiological control in industrial cooling water systems.
