Manufacturing resources are dynamically changed in the processing of product development. The information of these resources is normally stored in a manufacturing database. The traditional static-based manufacturing resource management systems suffer from uncertainty. They are not efficient in generating a near-zero manufacturing paradigm in different product development environments, which increases product development cycle time and cost. This paper discusses the use of dynamic manufacturing resources in a distributed product development environment. The manufacturing information is updated along with the use of resources. Machines and tools are selected based on their availability for the need of individual product. Examples show the feasibility of the proposed method.
