摘要

Peninsular Malaysia experiences very high lightning activities and it could be regarded amongst the highest in the world with an average thunder-day level of 180. Since the isokeraunic level in Peninsular Malaysia is high, line outages due to lightning is a major concern for reliable operation of transmission line. It is estimated that lightning causes about 70% of the total annual line outages. This paper describes the characteristic of line tripping, simulations and analyses conducted using SIGMA software, including the economic application of line lighting arresters.
