摘要

Most past experiments with adjustable speed drive (ASD) conversions have concentratedrnon centrifugal loads such as pumps and fans. A recent plant-wide assessment conductedrnat a carpet yarn extrusion plant investigated two unique ASD conversions, one centrifugalrnand one linear load. The centrifugal load considered was a DC drive on a plasticrnextruder, and the linear load was a yarn twister. Before and after power measurementsrnwere recorded to determine the savings from ASD conversion. The results indicate thatrnadjustable speed AC drives can be justified in a low cost electricity region on an existingrnvariable speed DC drive and on a constant speed linear load if savings other than energyrnare considered in the analysis.
