摘要

In Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), populations of peripheral districts are severely handicapped by poor access to urban facilities located in central districts, the low motorised vehicle ownership and the lack of water or electricity supply. From a survey made in two peripheral districts, it appears that handicaps are partially overcome by neighbourhood or family solidarity but, unlike in some other cities (Bamako, Dakar), local initiatives are not focused on the improvement of public transport inside these districts. Ouagadougou municipality will have to choose between more urban public facilities in peripheral areas (but rather costly with low density and present urban sprawl) and a better access to central districts with public transport supply and a minimum road network serving peripheral areas.
