There has been a great concern over high and increasing level of poverty in the less developed countries (LDCs). This has informed the various models and measures being articulated to tackle the problem particularly in the LDCs. However, none of the known theories and models have incorporated explicty the role of urban transportation in explaining poverty level in the LDCs. But we know that transportation systems are the veins and arteries of urban areas linking together social areas and functional zones with significant influence on development and poverty.
