The current investigations were carried out on the spent washing-off liquor generated during cellulosic dyeing of knit fabrics using fibre reactive dyes. The treated wastewater was also evaluated to check its suitability for repeated reuse after oxidation treatment with Ozone gas (03). The experimental results showed that an Ozone dose of 2000 mg/h for 30 minutes could be applied to remove dye and chemical oxygen demand (COD) without compromising dyeing characteristics. A decrease in pH was also observed during 03 applications due to the formation of acidic by-products. Based on the colour reproduction data (AL*, AC*, AH* and AE*) of three selected dyes; C.I. Reactive Orange 13, C.I. Reactive Red 269, and C.I. Reactive Blue 263, it has been found that washing baths of all dyes can be reused 2 to 3 times with negligible colour differences. Colour fastness properties of all samples under investigation were found to be similar (4 to 4.50) to those of control samples. Because the new method under investigation did not use any fresh water in rinsing process and hence it proved to be very green and environmentally friendly process.
