First triaxial multi-stage tests on a Swiss lacustrine clay, the Seebodenlehm, are presented. The aim of the research is to model the deformation behaviour of the normally consolidated Seebodenlehm for plastic straining as well as for behaviour inside the current yield locus. Therefore two models are being studied: S-Clayl for yielding and 3-SKH for elasto-plastic deformation inside the yield locus. Stress response and volumetric behaviour of specimens from 6 and 23 m depth, as well as their stiffness during shearing, are presented. The agreement of the test results with predictions based on the S-Clayl model with rotating yield loci is discussed. The main question remaining concerns stress paths inside the yield locus: whether and how they interfere with the anisotropy of the yield surface.
