摘要

Vacuum arc remelting(VAR) process is widely used in manufacturing of titanium alloy ingots. VAR process is essential for Ti ingots, which is highly reactive with oxygen in liquid, to produce uniform and fine microstructures. The solidification microstructure of the VAR ingot of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was analyzed using thermal gradient, shape of liquid pool, and heat flux, which were estimated by a commercial simulation program. Those simulated parameters could predict the distribution of grains and shrinkage defect in the ingot. In addition, sensitivity of uncertain input parameters, boundary conditions, thermal properties and initial melting temperature, was investigated.
