Thermal and setting expansion behavior of alumina based phosphate-bonded investment in titanium castings was investigated in terms of a variation of Zr content and heat treatment conditions in order to understand the fitness of denture frame. The chemical composition of filer materials was varied to make out the effect of setting expansion. Based on experimental results obtained, it is revealed that setting expansion is not influenced by the content of filler material Zr. However, thermal expansion was observed to display a marked increase with increasing content of Zr metal powder. In contrast, undersized denture castings were produced when the total expansion (thermal + setting) of investment material was insufficient to 0.25% or an investment was contracted through the casting process. When the amount of expansion of investment material was excessive(1.1%), fitness was found to be unsuitable between master model and denture castings. The best condition on fitness between titanium casting and investment material was obtained to 0.7-0.8% of total expansion in order to make a denture frame using investment casting method.
