摘要

The property of "closure" in databases enforces that the inputs and outputs of queries on databases are of the same type. Relational databases have traditionally been supporting closure, by generating outputs of queries in the form of tables, which is the form of the input as well. In this paper, we present an extended form of the closure property in structured document database systems. Here in addition to the input and the output, queries and metadata are also closed under one common domain. This property allows database systems to store, process, and manipulate all of these elements as standard database objects, and hence allow processing of queries not only on the data, but also meta-data, and even queries. We propose the closure format, describe the different objects that can be closed under the domain, and discuss various connotations of this new property.
