Asynchronous recovery in distributed computing system is desirable for several reasons, including not requiring synchronization between processes during normal and recovery operations. However, previous asynchronous recovery protocols require that each process maintain dependency information of all processes and propagate the dependency information to all other processes. In this paper, we introduce a scalable dependency tracking that each process maintains only dependency information of communicating processes instead of all processes and propagates its dependency of communicating processes. Furthermore, each process does not concern the dependency information of non-communicating processes. We prove that scalable dependency tracking is sufficient to orphan test Using scalable dependency tracking, low cost asynchronous recovery protocol is presented.
