摘要

4G technologies are developed toward provision for seamless high-quality wireless multimedia services based multiple access technologies in ubiquitous wireless communication systems. Therefore, in the 4G wireless communication environments, new wireless access technologies that can provide high-quality multimedia services will appear, and it is required for seamless wireless service to integrate wide-area cellular technologies such as the 2G and the 3G wireless, local area access technologies such as WLAN and WPAN, and new wireless access technologies. This paper proposes the adaptation layer of the 4G mobile terminal protocols that enables a mobile terminal to support various physical layer technologies. In this paper, we suggest the functions, primitives, and operational illustrations of the adaptation layer supporting two physical layer technologies, i.e. WCDMA and WLAN.
