Most of our employers employ one or more accountants. Have you ever asked the question what do these bean counters with the green eyeshades do, anyway? Why are they always criticizing and shooting down my projects. As a Facility Manager there are some important accounting or financial questions that you should ask yourself. Some of these are: 1. Do you have difficulty communicating with your CFO? 2. Do they speak a foreign language? 3. Do you know how your daily activities affect your company's bottom line? If you prepare a budget, you might be familiar with some of the financial components that are accounting related. Are you aware that after people, the major cost to a company is its facilities? Are you fiscally responsible? Are you saving money for your company? A Statement of Basic Accounting Theory published by the American Accounting Association has defined Accounting rather broadly as: .. the process of identifying, measuring, and communicating economic information to permit informed judgments and decisions by users of the information.
