The axis of location and the shape of the hole are important in assessing the strength under stability. It is observed that cutouts along the axis normal to loading direction takes more load and the holes with sharp corners resist more than the holes with smooth edges. Similarly changing the hole aspect ratio for the same area of the hole, if the longer dimension of the hole is placed along the direction of loading, it takes less load. In all the cases studied above, when the mode shape changes, it results in the increase in strength, which normally depends upon the aspect ratio of the plate, hole-size ratio, hole aspect ratio, boundary conditions and also the eccentricity of the hole as evident from the present study. Hence it is concluded that the influence of eccentricity of the hole on the strength of the plate is decisive and more experimental and theoretical investigations must be focused towards this end.
