The chlorination of public drinking water has proven to be a significant breakthrough in the prevention of disease in humans. "The filtration of drinking water (plus the use ofrnchlorine) is probably the most significant public health advance of the millennium", according to Life magazine. Chlorinated drinking water has probably saved more humanrnlives than penicillin has.
