摘要

Aim and objective:
Tongue source skeletal dento-maxillofacial open bite deformities have shown highdegree of post treatment relapse and degradation. This thesis is about the combination of glossectomy and surgical correction of dento-facial deformities. The outcome of such a combination was stability over a period of 6 years.
  Methods:
The surgical procedure consists of a bimaxillary osteotomy and maxillary fragmentationif required. Reduction of the lower anterior facial height is achieved by maxillaryrotation, closure of the gonial angle and genioplasty. The type of glossectomyperformed is median- thomboid hence reducing the volume while having a lingualproprioceptive action at the same time.
  Result and conclusion:
The physiopathology of skeletal dento-maxillofacial Class Ⅲ open bite deformities isvery complex in nature. Genetic factors dominate as the growth of the individual iscompromised and lingual dysfunction affects the severity of the deformity. Thecombination of facial bone corrective surgery and glossectomy helps to reduce the risksof rec urrence.
