摘要

针对语音意识在成人英语学习中的作用,作者采用个案研究的方式,通过访谈,自我观察与有声思维法,以及撰写学习日记的方法,记录来自中山大学的两名成人英语学习者的语音学习过程,旨在了解、分析成人英语学习者的语音行为。探究他们能否从可控行为-以显性知识为自我指导的行为,转化为自发行为-语音知识已经内化,实际发音行为不受明显意识控制的行为。
   数据分析和观察记录显示,首先语音意识对中国成人英语学习者的语音学习有积极作用。这表现在一旦成人英语学习者意识到他们发音的问题以及其自身语音输出与标准语音输入之间的差距,他们就会设法找到适合自己的方法并不断练习改变自己有问题的发音;并在不同的语音练习阶段对自己的英语发音进行自我监控、评价和调整。其次,通过持续有意识的控制性语音练习,成人英语学习者可以达到自发发音行为,只是对不同的语音特征达到的自发程度不同。一般说来,像单音位这样的音段特征要比节奏、语音语调这样的超音段特征容易达到自发发音行为。而且,中文语音系统中存在相似语音特征的音段或超音段相对容易被改变并被学习者内化,而英文语音系统中有而中文语音系统中不存在的特征更难被改变。另外,研究显示“重复”不是机械练习,反而具有创造性的作用,它能减少说英语者使用某种语音特征时从反应到自发发音的时间。
   本研究结果对我国英语的教与学以及今后的研究有一定的价值。这一研究发现了问题,但同时有助于我们了解语音意识对成人英语学习者语音学习的积极作用,为成人语音学习提供了有价值的参考数据。
