摘要

The pervasiveness of domestic violence in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s prompted policy makers to implement mandatory arrest laws to provide additional protection to victims and to inform offenders of consequences. However, since mandatory arrest policies have been put into practice, much discord over their effectiveness and use has ensued. This project report offers a historical tracing and explores various factors indicated in the literature related to the role of law enforcement and mandatory arrest policies in terms of their impact on domestic violence. Despite the efforts by lawmakers and women's rights activists across the nation to improve the detriment of intimate partner violence, no single solution was identified in the literature to stop the epidemic. As incidents of intimate partner violence continue to occur each day, the literature demonstrates the need for continued evaluation of current procedures and development of new policies.
