The purpose of this paper was to assess if the telecommunication advancements within the transit industry are hindered by the operational mindset of transit only business goals. The study had a twofold hypothesis. The first was to verify the belief that the current organizational frameworks are not well suited for the advancement of commercial telecommunication systems. The second purpose was to identify specific applications of addressing the advancement within the industry as might be illustrated using more commercial terms of business, that is, public--private partnerships or venture capital acquisitions. The results demonstrated that there was a significant reverse variation of the advancing complexity of operating a telecommunications network within the framework of a mass transit organization. The research also indicated a significant relationship pertaining to the primary business objectives of a Transit Authority to operate trains and its necessity to deploy advanced telecommunications.
