This research showed a framework and application of sustainability network theory (SNT) and model for the analysis of industrial systems. Sustainability network theory (SNT) is a rigorous theory applying network modeling and theory to industrial systems, with industrial systems understood in a holistic sense to include social and industrial dimensions, manufacturing and service components, and consumption and end-of-life activities. A conceptual SNT framework made up of a social, cultural and regulatory network (SCRFN); an economic and financial network (EFN); and a material, energy and environmental flow network (MEEFN).;Industrial ecology, system sustainability, and related fields to integrate information on economic, material, energy, and environmental stocks and flows have not yet been able to accomplish. Also they have many theories and methodologies (e.g. LCA, MFA, and DFE, etc.). However these theories and methodologies are not enough to understand systems. Therefore, SNT and approach can be used a useful tool or method for industrial ecology and system sustainability.;In the case study, an example of a sustainable networked delivery (SND) system: a hybrid business-to-consumer book delivery system was designed and assessed. This system is intended to reduce costs, achieve significant reductions in energy consumption, and reduce environmental emissions of critical local pollutants and greenhouse gases. The energy consumption and concomitant emissions of this delivery system with existing alterative delivery systems were estimated. It was found that regarding energy consumption, an emerging hybrid delivery system, which is a sustainable networked delivery system (SND), would consume 47 times less than the traditional networked delivery system (TND) and 7 times less than and e-commerce networked delivery system (END). Regarding concomitant emissions, in case of carbon dioxide emission, the SND system produce 32 times fewer than the TND and 7 times fewer than the END system. Also the SND system offer meaningful economic benefit such as the costs of delivery and packaging, to the online retailer, grocery, and consumer. This research results show that the SND system has a lot of possibilities to save local transportation energy consumption and delivery costs, and to reduce environmental emissions in delivery system.
