The effect of structured Web activities and a Multimedia Sentence Structure Module on single-sentence English writing among freshmen international trade majors at a vocation college in Taiwan.
The purpose of this study is to address the effectiveness of structured web activities in a Multimedia Sentence Structure Module (MSS Module) in improving single sentence English writing among freshmen International Trade majors at a Taiwanese University. A Modified version of General English Proficiency Test (MGEPT) was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between student performance after receiving instruction with the researcher-created MSS Module and structured web activities as compared to instruction with the MSS Module without structured web activities. The structure web activities were three types of existing Internet grammar exercises that the researcher selected from various Internet resources, to provide additional practices in three respective subsections of single sentence writing---sentence unscrambling, sentence rephrasing, and sentence combining.; The population for this study was two intact freshmen classes who were International Trade majors at an institute of technology in northern Taiwan. A quasi-experimental group research design was implemented, utilizing the MGEPT as the pre-test and posttest.
