摘要

The objective of this thesis is to investigate a low pressure, low energy surface flashover across metallized polypropylene film (MPF) for an intense pulsed light source application. Preliminary investigations into surface flashover experiments on MPF yielded that it can be used to create a robust low cost pulsed light source by using surface flashover on MPF a new pulsed light source application can be created. The pulsed light source application will cost less because of the reduced energy consumption, and the reduced complication of implementation by reducing the numbers of components needed to design the application. A xenon flash tube is a current application of intense pulsed light source. It produces pulsed light via a complex mechanism which utilizes large amounts of energy per flash, approximately 6 J.
