Phylogenetic ingroup relationships of the water boatmen, or Corixoidea (Insecta: Heteroptera: Nepomorpha), and systematic revisions of New Guinea and Australian species of pygmy water boatmen (Corixoidea: Micronectidae) are presented.;Novel phylogenetic analyses using maximum parsimony and Bayesian reconstruction of 78 morphology characters and 16S rDNA and 28S rDNA molecular sequences for 29 corixoid exemplars support recent division of Corixoidea into three families: Diaprepocoridae, Micronectidae, and Corixidae. Ingroup relationships of Corixoidea are discussed, and Micronectidae are shown to be highly divergent within the Corixoidea.;Diagnostic morphology of Micronectidae is reviewed with special emphasis on Australasian taxa. Systematic revisions, including cladistic analyses of New Guinea and Australian Micronectidae are presented with descriptions of two new genera, Papuanecta (New Guinea) and Weironecta (Australia), and four new species: P. inelryjelnor and P. minajerwioides (New Guinea) and W. bartzarum and Micronecta paragoga (Australia). The Australian species Micronecta concordia King, M. dixonia King, and M. illiesi Wroblewski are synonymized with M. annae Kirkaldy. In total, 4 genera and 23 species are recorded and treated for the region. Generic limits for Micronecta Kirkaldy are redefined, based on morphology character study of exemplars, on a world basis. A review and synthesis of higher classification and infrafamilial relationships of Micronectidae are presented, providing a foundation for ongoing study of generic limits and higher classification within the family.
